"Those
whom we support hold us up in life."
-- Marie von Ebner Eschenbach |
|
The
social and emotional components of our being fit together in a sort of love
knot. People who have strong social ties tend to be healthier, happier and live
longer. Poet, John Donne writes, "No man is an island." Our families,
friends, communities, and work relationships are what keep us going day to day.
The service we give to others, returns to us in abundance. Unfortunately, the
world in which we live is set on fast-forward—a condition that leaves everybody stressed. Our relationships
often
become compromised in the busy sweep of daily life. Procrastination is often our
best friend and greatest lament.

Social
interaction is a health promoting behavior. Emotional health is both an outcome
and a pre-requisite to healthy social interaction.

Research shows a direct link
between social and emotional competence in the critical decision-making
processes throughout the lifespan. The healthier and more rounded we are, the
better and more responsible our decisions. This is an important aspect of a
healthy society. Quite a responsibility. When we set our priorities in making
time for others and paying attention to our own emotional well-being, we take
those closest to us along for the ride.
Our children and loved ones are affected by what we do and
what we do not. Not only are they affected in terms of nourished or deprived
relationships and experiences, but we model our priorities and teach by example.
The
goal is to make improving relationships a priority so there is less stress and
greater health, less guilt and greater peace, less disappointment and more
delight,
less neglect and more nurture. Our mission is to support you in strengthening
your
social context and emotional well-being by presenting a range of articles,
insights,
and tips to ease the way.
